Yerucham Meshel (born in Pinsk in 1912), Israeli politician and former secretary general of the Histadrut
Studied in cheder Metukan and Tarbut highschool in Pinsk. Came to Israel in 1933. Passed away in 2002.

Jerusalem Post -- Veteran Histadrut secretary-general and Labor Knesset member Yeroham Meshel died Wednesday at the age of 90 after a long illness. His funeral is scheduled to take place at the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery on Thursday at 2 p.m.
Meshel, who served as Histadrut secretary-general for 11 years (from 1973-84), became an almost legendary working man's hero.
He was born on November 24, 1912 in Pinsk, a small Ukrainian town on the shores of the Priper River which was also a major Jewish and Zionist center. Meshel received a ...

".....the famous exchange between Reb Yaakov Kamenetsky and Yerucham Meshel, then the secretary-general of the Histadrut, on a plane ride. Yonoson Rosenblum, author of a book on the life of Reb Yaakov, depicted that exchange as follows:
"At the end of the flight, Meshel expressed his amazement at the way Reb Yaakov's son and granddaughter kept coming to talk to him and were so solicitous of his needs. Meshel confessed that he only rarely saw his own children and grandchildren.
"Reb Yaakov explained to him, `You believe in Darwin. In your children's eyes, you are just one generation closer to the apes than they are. But for us, the central event in history was the moment when Hashem spoke to the entire Jewish people at Sinai . . . My children and grandchildren honor me as being closer to that Revelation. They view me as someone who had contact with spiritual giants beyond their comprehension, and therefore attribute to me a wisdom and spiritual sensitivity that they lack.' "
