Sam was born in Pinsk c 1930 to Michael Begun and Roechel Kaplan.
Both parents were born in Pinsk in 1909. Michael was a carpenter for
the singer sewing machine factory which sent products to the U.S.-
mother was religious and kept kosher. It was the second marriage
between the Kaplan and Begun families of Pinsk. The grandparents of
Sam from his father side were also deported to Siberia. the
grandfather was in the The Crimean War (1853–1856) a soldier for
Imperial Russia, an alliance of France, the United Kingdom, the
Kingdom of Sardinia, and the Ottoman Empire on the other side. . they
passed away after the war ( grandfather in 1945 grandmother at age 85
after learning the killing of her other children.
Uncle Sachna was a soldier in the first world war.
