Pinsk Looking For?

I have been unable to make any headway in researching the surname BURGIMSKY. My grandmother, CHAWA SZWEC, passenger manifest lists a brother named MOISCHE BURGIMSKY residing in the town of Pinsk as a living relative in the town from which she was emigrating in 1920. It is clearly written and very legible on both her manifest and that of her four children (whose manifest lists him as their uncle). This name does not show up in the Jewishgen databases except for my posting in the JGFF. To further complicate the matter her children did not all agree on the name from their memory as indicated on their various US documents such as birth records, marriage records, etc. They show the following variety: Budimsky, Dubinsky, Vidinsly. My grandmother had no living relatives that we know of with the exception of a step-sister born late in life to her mother, YEHKVEDA, but with the surname of MERER. This family connection has been explored but did not yield any information about the BURGIMSKY surname. Is there anyone who might be able to offer some guidance as to how to research the BURGIMSKY name? Susan Popiol |
