Cracow - the Old Cemetery beside the Remuh Synagogue (ul. Szeroka 40) operated in the years 1552-1800. The oldest tombstones date back to the mid-16th century. It contains the tomb of Rabbi Moses Isserles called Remuh (ca 1525-1572) and the tombs of his family. Moses Isserles was a rabbi of the Cracow Jewish community in the years 1547-1572, and also a rector of the local Talmudic academy. Here are to be found the tombs of the following: Mordechaj Saba, called Singer, rector of the Cracow Talmudic academy in the years 1572-1576; Joseph Kac, rector of the same academy in the years 1576-1591; Nathan Nata Spira (1583-1633), Cracow rabbi and rector of the academy in the years 1617-1633; Jozue ben Joseph (1590- 1648), rector of the Cracow Talmudic acedemy- my; Joel Sirkes (BaCH, 1561-1640), rabbi of the Cracow Jewish community and rector of the academy; Gerszon Saul Jom Tow Lipman Heller (1579-1654), rabbi of the Jewish communities in Vienna and Prague, in Cracow in the years 1643-1654, rector of the Cracow Talmudic academy in the years 1648- 1654; Isaac Landau Lewita, rabbi of the Cracow Jewish community in the years 1754-1768; Isaac Halewi, rabbi of the Cracow Jewish community and rector of the Talmudic academy in Cracow (1776-1799). - The New Cemetery (ul. Miodowa 55) eatablished- ished in 1800, several thousand tombstones perserved. The oldest ones date back to the 1840's. People are still buried here. Among others, there are tombstones of Ozjasz Thon (1870-1936), rabbi and MP; Leon Sternbach (1864-1940); two painters Maurycy Got- tlieb (1856-1879) and Arthur Markowicz (1872- 1934)
