Cyna HIRSCHBERG Cyna was the son of Mozes Israel Isser HIRSCHBERG & Elka Ryvka SCHENKER. He was born in Krakow on November 18, 1879. He moved to Antwerp, probably around the turn of the century, and married Rosa ARONSFRAU there on January 29, 1907. Their first two children, Annie and Emanuel were born in Antwerp. Because of the war, they moved temporarily to Holland, where their third child, Leon, was born. They returned to Belgium after the war. This picture was taken in 1928, in South Africa (Lichtenburg?). With the onset of the second world war, they attempted to emigrate to the United States. They were killed when their boat was sunk by the Germans off the coast of Newfoundland on Jan 25, 1942.

Rabbi Alter David and Tova Kurtzman (the submitter's grandparents), before the war.
: Marcel Kortzman was born in Krakow, Poland on 08/05/1935. Until the outbreak of the war, he and his sister were cared for by a nanny of German origin named Aya. When the war began, the family fled east to Buczacz. A year later they were captured by Russian soldiers, and taken to a camp in the Ural Mountains. In 1941, the family members were freed and went south, to Samarkand. They returned to Krakow in 1946 and immigrated to Israel in 1950. After six years in the Beit Lid transit camp they moved to Netanya. Marcel got married in 1960. His sister was born on 18/09/1933, and died in 2003. She left a husband, two children and grandchildren. Rabbi Alter David Kortzman, Marcel's father, died in January 1977 at the age of 81. Tova Kortzman, Marcel's mother, died in July 1990 at the age of 86.
