My mother was from a large middle-class family, and she had 11 brothers and sisters. Grandpa was a cantor in the synagogue and owned a cloth dyeing factory. My father was orphaned by his parents when he was 12 and he had to support his family who had 8 children working in a sawmill. I have a brother and I had a sister who passed away a few years ago. The German Naziess entered Vidz at the end of June of 1941, Shortly after my younger brother was born. We fled east. On the cart we loaded the necessary equipment, blankets, money and well-hidden cash. Halfway through my grandfather remembered forgetting to take some valuables, when he returned, the Poles murdered him. We continued to flee from the Germans under shelling, finally finding refuge with the partisans in the forests. My father was drafted into the Russian army, and my mother was left with a baby and two children and with my grandmother. Mother had to look for food for her family in the fields, especially potatoes. After the war ended in the area The members of the JDC we met took us, the children, to an orphanage to bring us to Israel. My mother followed her children and kept checking where we were. One day she met us in the city of Rosenheim in Germany. When she saw what we looked like; Neglected and full of lice, she took us out of the hands of the JDC. All the while on the run, Mom was looking for my father. She finally found him wounded. The Entire family was transferred to a DP camp in the German town of Kassel. We were inIn the DP campfor about about 4 years . During the war, I lost my grandfather and a large part of my mother's family and my father's family. In 1949, we immigrated to Israel and were sent to the Pardes Hanna transit camp. My mother's brother, who was already in Israel, picked us up at his house in Hadera. In 1960, I married Joachim (Aki) Charlinski. We have three children: Orit, Ronen and Ayelet, as well as 8 grandchildren.
