My great-grandfather Zelig (after whom Vivian Zelig Klaff is named) had two brothers, Avraham and Joseph (Yosef) Most of Joseph's children ended up in England Avraham's six children perished in the Holocaust  Of Zelig's four children only my grandmother Roddeh left Europe (with her husband Isaac Shapiro and her daughter Queenie [my mother]) and emigrated to South Africa His other three children, together with all their children, except Sarah, did not survive the Holocaust

My mother's sisters Dora and Bess visited Israel, but although my father met the Olkienitskis on a few occasions, my mother unfortunately was afraid of flying and never met her first cousin Sarah. Dora first visited Israel in May 1953 and met the Olkienitskis in Tel Aviv.  Dora invited Sarah to spend Dora's last weekend with her in Netanya, a well-known holiday resort. The taxi driver suggested they stay at the Four Seasons Hotel. He assured them that it was the nicest and best hotel in Netanya and would be full of English speaking visitors. On the way they passed the newly renovated Park Hotel. "This is lovely. I want to stay here," said Dora. "There's nothing to do there. I'm surprised it's open," replied the taxi driver. But Dora insisted and they booked in. At lunchtime there were only two set tables - one for Dora and Sarah, the other for four people.

After lunch, Dora talked to one of the men at the other table. When he said he was from Liverpool, Dora told him that she had a cousin in Liverpool, a pen pal, with whom she had corresponded when she was young. "What is her name?" he asked. "Her name won't help," Dora replied, "She's grown up now. We've lost all contact and I don't know her married name."

"Well, I'm a doctor for 40 years in Liverpool. Tell me her name, perhaps I know her."

"Her name was Florrie Goldberg and I even remember her address," (which she then recited).

The man called to his wife and said, "Florrie, come here. I want you to meet your cousin!"
