I am researching all members of the Weindling family worldwide. Other
versions of the name are Wajndling and Weyndling. This is a very rare
name which has survived for at least 200 years.
The family roots have been traced back to Krakow, Wolbrom and Tarnow in Poland.
Today there are about a 100 Weindlings who live in the US, England,
France, Germany.
I have a large database of 1,500 people and believe that ultimately
all Weindlings are related. I would like to hear from anybody who has
an interest in the Weindling name.
Please contact me at the addresses shown.
Best wishes,
Dick Weindling.
1. Naftali1 Weindling was born Abt. 1760, and died Bef. 1844. He
married Gitli Unknown Unknown. She was born Abt. 1760, and died Abt.
1830.
Notes for Naftali Weindling:
Eileen Polakoff notes:
The source of his first name, and his wife's first name, are from the
death certificate of his son Nusen Weindling and the marriage record
of Nusen Weindling and Frometa. His date of birth is an estimate based
on when his son Schmuel (Nusen) was born, and his date of death is
based on the first known person in later generations of the family to
have the name Naftali. (Only names of dead grandparents can be given).
Naftali is a name that often appears in the Weindling family in later
generations.
Child of Naftali Weindling and Gitli Unknown is:
+ 2 i. Schmuel Nathan (Nusen)2 Weindling, born Abt. 1782 in Krakow,
Poland; died September 6, 1847 in Krakow, Poland.
-- Generation No. 2
2. Schmuel Nathan (Nusen)2 Weindling (Naftali1) was born Abt.
1782 in Krakow, Poland, and died September 6, 1847 in Krakow, Poland.
He married (1) Frometta Unknown. She was born Abt. 1810, and died 1846
in Krakow. He married (2) Hinde Izaak August 9, 1801 in Krakow,
Poland. She was born Abt. 1783, and died 1818 in Krakow, Poland.
Notes for Schmuel Nathan (Nusen) Weindling:
In the Wolbrom Yizkor Book a Shmuel Veindling is listed in the 1791
Wolbrom Census
(Ref: JewGen printout and e-mail from Phil Kamtraub 23/10/99)
1795 Krakow Census does not show any families with Naftali as father,
Gitli as mother and Natan aged about 12 or 13 as son. This suggests
that Natan was not living in Krakow at this time. He is there in 1801
when he marries Hinde.
The marriage in 1801 is shown on Krakow Marriages (1798 - 1808).
9 August 1801, Nathan Hersch, aged 19 living at house # 69, marries
Hinde, age 18, living at house # 41. No surnames are given for bride
or bridegroom. Hinde's father is shown as Isaak. (Ref: JewishGen)
At the time of the birth of their first child, Ephraim Leibel, in 1802
they are living in House Number 85.
The 1802 List of House Owners shows that house number 69, where Natan
was at the time of his marriage, is a stone house on Hauptplatz
(Szeroka) in Juderstadt, it is quite large at 88 fathoms and it was
inhabited by eight families. House Number 85, where the family lived
from at least 1802 to 1817, is a very large stone house of 337 fathoms
on Hauptplatz (Steroka) in Judenstadt. It was shared by several
families.
Natan's Occupation: Wine maker and merchant.
Natan and Hinde seem to be the only Weindling family in Krakow having
children between 1802-1817. She dies in 1818 and Nathan remarries
Frometta Unknown.
Natan Weyndling appears on Tax File 2 from JewishGen:
District House Firm District Firm Building Business Tax
Paid 1818-9 1819-20 1820-21
11 20 11 87 Wine 60 53 55
In 1833 at the time of his son Lazar's wedding, Natan was living in
the 6th Community of Krakow.
Natan's date of death from JPI search 6 Sept 1998.
After Hinde's death, Natan seems to marry his second wife Frometta
Unknown. EP believes this is about 1828, but no record has yet been
found in Krakow documents. No sign of Nathan and Frometta having any
children. Frometta dies in 1846 (Ref; JewishGen).
Notes for Frometta Unknown:
Date of death from JPI search 6 Sept 1998.
Notes for Hinde Izaak:
1795 Krakow census has 601 Jewish families (1916 people) living in 115
houses. At house number 41 is Lazer Isaac aged 44 and his wife
Bezalel? Gnendel aged 42 and their daughter Hinde aged 11. The Isaac
family share the house with four other families. (Ref: JewishGen)
Hindy marries Nathan Hersch (no surnames) on 9 August 1801.
1802 List of House Owners shows that House number 41 is very small (9
square fathoms, where a fathom is 6 feet). It is situated next to the
Town Hall in Juderstadt. (Ref; JewishGen)
EP. has her death as 30 July 1827 from a comment on Marcus Hirsch's
marriage certificate, but I think the date of 1818 from Judy
Wolkovitch e-mail looks more likely.
Children of Schmuel Weindling and Hinde Izaak are:

Notes for Efraim Lebel Weindling:

In the 1890 census he is shown as running a sweet factory and grocery stall.
1891 Galica Business Directory
Lists E. Weindling as a grocer, chocolate-maker and candy maker.
Fredrick Weindling believes that Elias may have moved to London and
set up a sweet factory around the turn of the Century. Eliasz and
Esther came to Antwerp, Belgium with some of their children probably
in 1907-1909. (Ref. Letter from Georges Weindling 14 /6/1997)
They had a candy factory in the backgarden of their house. (Ref:
Frederik Weindling, phone call, 20 Dec 1997)
Elias enlarged their sweet factory to also produce 'Antwerpia'
chocolate. After his death, Norbert Laufer and his son Leon continued
the work. The factory probably ceased during the War when Norbert
Laufer was imprisoned by the Nazis and then kept in a hospital under
German control. (Ref: Letter from Georges Weindling 16 /7/1997)
