I have been doing genealogy research for many years. My great-great-grandmother was born Rokhel Leia STUPEL in Vilnius in 1822, daughter of Abram and Khaia Sora. She married Beniamin IOELS, son of Leyb. I have traced her descendants under the surnames IOELS (which became ELLIS in the United States) and BEIMEL.
Rokhel Leia also had a sister Rivka, who married Yankel GURVICH and had six children, including Berko Girsh, Raska Rochel, Khana Mera and Roza Meryam.
Your web page on the musical family STUPEL/HOFMEKLER is of particular interest to me, since it connects to descendants of Rokhel Leia’s brother Vulf Girsh, in particular his son Abram Ber STUPEL (b. 1867) and Abram’s children Isaj, Monja, Izrael, Leo and Idel. The web page states that many members of this family died in the Holocaust. I have not been able to trace this branch of the family any further.
I would like to find out whether you know about living descendants of the STUPEL and GURVICH families. Any additional information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!
