Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for the HELBERG information! It's been a while since I've looked at genealogy (it took up too much time!) Nothing rang a bell in the information sent by EilatGordn a while ago, but in case this rings a bell with others, here is info about my Helbergs (as you can see I haven't done much research -- I have zero info on dates/years!)
--- highest generation
Lemi Helberg m. to Elka (I'd guess born 1850 to 1875)
they had 8 children, no idea what order:
Nechama, Kalman, Merril, Fegie, Aaron, Mottle, Pessel, Esther
--- about those children
Nechama married Yaakov Bielous (?Belaus?), & their various children
changed last names (to avoid Russian draft, e.g.) to Fuchsman, and
in the U.S. from Fuchsman to Dyckman. This branch grew to be a
fairly large family. My only clue to ANY of the ages in this tree is
that at least 2 of Nechama's 6 children were born early 1890's,
from which I figure her parents were born 1850 - 1875 or so.
Kalmen married twice in Russia, no other info
Merril & Fegie, I have no info
Aaron had at least 2 daughters, Elka and Nechama, both married/in Israel,
no idea what their last names would be
Mottle had at least 3 children, incl a daughter Nadia, married in Israel
and a son Lema or Lemiel
Pessel had at least 5 children, Chashka, Elka, Gittel, Muma, Yaakov,
Elka married & in Haifa w at least 2 children (on in Canada),
Gittel married & had at least 2 children
Aaron, Mottle, and Pessel each had at least one child who went to Israel:
Aaron --> Elka, Nechama, both of whom married (no idea whom)
Mottle --> Nadia, married (no id

Fred FRENKEL (genfred@arcor.de) on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 16:58:28

on your HELBERG family page I read:
"Leibel Rakower was the son of Rabbi Eliakim Getzel Rakower/ Rakowski 1759-
1838 and Hinda bat rabbi Shimon Pesach (consul of Krakow) 1763- 1840"

According to Dan HIRSCHBERG's Krakow page Getzel RAKOWER was married to Hinda
Samsonowicz. This is based on the Krakow census 1795 information. Samson
Herszlowicz was ancestor of my family. After his death in c1810 his given name
reappeared in the RAKOWER family as well as in other Krakow families rooting
from Samson.

This is why I am rather interested where you have the information on Hinda
which looks controversial to the facts listed on Dan's pages.

Looking forward to your gentle reply

Fred FRENKEL

Sam Helberg; Holocaust survivor developed real estate ( grandfather of actor Simon Helberg of the Big Bang Theory)

Published on Sept. 9, 2003

Helberg

Sam Helberg, whose barbering skills helped him survive the Holocaust and later gave him a foothold in the United States that he parlayed into real estate wealth, died Monday in his Sylvania Township home. He was 78.
Mr. Helberg died of bile duct cancer, said his youngest son, Tom Helberg.
A native of Bedzin, Poland ( born in 1925), Sam Shmuel Helberg was the youngest of 12 children of Moshe and Rachel. 11 of the sisters and brothers were imprisoned in concentration camps after the Germans overran Poland during World War II. Only he and a sister survived; another sister had fled the country before the nazi invasion.
Known locally as “Sam, the poor barber,” Mr. Helberg learned his shearing skills as World War II was breaking out. An older brother taught him how to cut hair, a skill that made him useful to the Nazis during his more than five years of detention at a small camp near Auschwitz.
Mr. Helberg was segregated from the general population and given extra food rations, though the latter he secretly shared with other inmates whenever he could, the son said. Caught once sharing his food, Mr. Helberg was punished by being put back in the general labor pool at the camp, but later was returned to his barber's duties after his replacement angered the staff.
Among those with whom he shared food was Tonia Altman, whom he married after the camps were liberated. The couple lived in Germany until 1950, when they and their infant son immigrated to Toledo under the sponsorship of a relief agency.
Mr. Helberg worked first for other local barbers, starting out with knowledge of just two English words - “short” and “long.” But by the mid-1950s he had his own shop on Stickney Avenue in North Toledo, and he later opened shops on Collingwood Boulevard and near the former Swayne Field.
On the side, his son said, Mr. Helberg began buying and renovating duplexes on the edges of the Old West End, and income from these efforts formed his $3,000 capital contribution to Bellevue, which he, George Kuehnl, and Charles Moulopolous founded in 1960.
They named their business after 31/2 acres at Bellevue and Douglas roads that was their first joint purchase. Plans to build dental offices there were scrubbed when the land was condemned to build I-475, but a coin laundry the trio subsequently developed on Collingwood got Bellevue's ball rolling. Bellevue would come to build more than one million square feet of office and commercial buildings, apartment blocks, and shopping centers from Bowling Green to Ann Arbor.
While he had little formal education, the son said, “my father had a head for numbers,” and was a master schmoozer.
Eventually he was able to retire from barbershops, though for many years he donated his hair-cutting talent to retirement center residents to show appreciation for the opportunities he had received in this country. During the Jewish emigration from Russia during the 1970s, Mr. Helberg took as an apprentice a Russian barber who had 18 years' experience but no English language skills.
“He was a very bright guy. He had a lot of street sense,” said Mark Zyndorf, a local commercial real estate executive. Mr. Helberg “got the banks to make the loans” and often made decisions without consulting his partners, but they never made any decisions without his input, Mr. Zyndorf said.
Mr. Helberg attended Congregation B'nai Israel weekly and established the Holocaust Memorial at Beth Shalom Cemetery.
Mr. Helberg is survived by his wife of 57 years, Tonia Helberg; sons, Sandy, Ted, and Tom Helberg; sister, Esther Rudoler; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Congregation B'nai Israel, 2727 Kenwood Blvd. Following services and through Friday afternoon, the family will receive friends at the Sylvania home of Tom and Shelley Helberg. The Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home handled arrangements.
The family suggests tributes to the National Holocaust Memorial, Washington, or the American Cancer Society.

Igael Tumarkin (Hebrew: ???? ???????; 23 October 1933 – 12 August 2021) was an Israeli painter and sculptor.[1]
Biography]
Peter Martin Gregor Heinrich Hellberg (later Igael Tumarkin) was born in 1933 in Dresden, Saxony, Germany. His father, Martin Hellberg, was a German theater actor and director, and a son of a pastor. His Jewish mother, Berta Gurevitch, and his stepfather, Herzl Tumarkin, immigrated to then British Mandate of Palestine (now Israel) when he was two.[2]
Tumarkin served in the Israeli Navy. After completing his military service, he studied sculpture in Ein Hod, a village of artists near Mount Carmel, under Rudi Lehmann. His youngest son is the actor Yon Tumarkin.[3][4] Tumarkin died at the age of 87 on 12 August 2021.[5][6]
Art career[edit]

Igael Tumarkin, 1980
Among Tumarkin's best known works are the Holocaust and Revival memorial in Rabin Square, Tel Aviv and his sculptures commemorate fallen soldiers in the Negev.[7]
Tumarkin was also an art theoretician and stage designer. In the 1950s, Tumarkin worked in East Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris. Upon his return to Israel in 1961, he became a driving force behind the break from the charismatic monopoly of lyric abstraction there. Tumarkin created assemblages of found objects, generally with violent expressionist undertones and decidedly unlyrical color. His determination to "be different" influenced his younger Israeli colleagues. The furor generated around Tumarkin's works, such as the old pair of trousers stuck to one of his pictures, intensified the mystique surrounding him.[8][9][10] One of his controversial works is a pig wearing phylacteries (or tfilin, small boxes containing scriptures).[11]
